Celebrated Argentinian Steak Restaurant Opens in Scotland

Culverwell are delighted to announce the letting, on behalf of Standard Life Investments and Peveril Securities, of the final unit in the 190,000 sq ft South St Andrew Square development to Gaucho.  The celebrated Argentinian steak restaurant has opened a flagship restaurant and bar extending to 6,500 sq ft arranged over ground and lower ground floors.

The new 120 cover luxury restaurant in Edinburgh’s prestigious St Andrew Square has seen the creation of 50 new jobs including openings for chefs, front of house and bar staff.

Gaucho’s wine list provides a choice of more than 200 exclusive Argentinian wines, some of which are produced at the restaurant’s vineyard in Mendoza, as well as an extensive range of Scottish whiskies.

Gaucho’s Edinburgh location is a homecoming for the restaurant’s free-to-roam, grass-fed Aberdeen Angus beef.  Originally from Scotland, Aberdeen Angus was first introduced to Argentina in 1879 by Don Carlos Guerrero.  Today, all of Argentina’s Aberdeen Angus are direct descendants of Guerrero’s original Scottish cattle – Cinderella, Aunt Lee and Virtuoso, the bull.

The launch of the Edinburgh restaurant has also seen see Chef Director, Jamie Robertson, return to his roots. Born and raised in Bonnyrigg, Robertson worked alongside celebrity chef Jamie Oliver before joining Gaucho in 2012, overseeing menu development and supply chain.

James Godfrey commented, “Gaucho forms the final piece in the jigsaw and completes a superb line-up that includes Dishoom, Wagamama, The Refinery, The Ivy and Vapiano.  St Andrew Square is now established as the premium dining destination in the city and we are very proud to have been involved in this fantastic development.”
